Contextual Alternates

Some OpenType fontsmostly script faceshave connecting alternates that connect better in certain letter combinations and will make your type look more like handwriting. You can also access alternate glyphs manually using the Glyphs palette.

Figure 7.13. Proportional Oldstyle (example A) is preferable to Lining Numerals (example B) in upper and lowercase type. On the other hand, Lining Numerals work better when the text is set in all caps.
