Working with Menus and Toolbars

To view the contents of a menu, click the menu name. The menu drops down from the menu bar to reveal a list of commands.

To execute a command, click the command name.

PowerPoint carries out the command, which may sometimes involve you selecting additional options from a dialog box.

Some commands reveal an additional submenu of commands. Move the mouse pointer over the command to view a submenu.

INTRODUCTION

Use PowerPoint's menus and toolbars to execute commands and perform tasks. The menu bar groups related commands and tasks under menu names. For example, the File menu includes commands to help you work with PowerPoint files. Toolbars contain clickable shortcuts, in the form of buttons, to common commands.

Issuing Keyboard Commands

You can also use your keyboard to execute menu commands in PowerPoint. Pressing the Alt key along with the underlined letter in a menu name opens the menu onscreen.

To execute a toolbar command, click the command's toolbar button.

To view additional toolbar buttons, click the Toolbar Options button.

A pop-up menu of additional buttons appears. Click a button to execute the command.
