Summary

DB2 UDB Version 8 must read and update data rows in the database buffer pools. To be able to do this as efficiently and effectively as possible, it is important that the buffer pools be sized correctly and assigned to the correct table spaces. DB2 UDB V8 can manipulate the data in parallel, using intra-partition parallelism, inter-partition parallelism, or a combination of both.

It is important to remember that parallelism will not help all database workloads and that it should be enabled only where appropriate.
