Summary

In this chapter we discussed the support of circuit-switched data and packet-switched data in cellular wireless systems. We addressed both terminal and core network aspects. This, together with the cellular and wireless LAN radio access background provided in Chapter 3, should provide the knowledge necessary to proceed to the discussion of the support of advanced wireless data services in the mobile environment. The next three chapters will be devoted to this topic.
