With Outlook open on your desktop, click Inbox under Favorite Folders or All Mail Folders to go to your Inbox. |
If you have set up Outlook to automatically log on and receive messages, you see any new messages you've received in the message list in bold. |
The Inbox is also marked in bold and lists the number of new messages you've received. |
INTRODUCTIONIf you have an e-mail address, you can both send and receive messages. To read your mail, simply log on to your e-mail provider; the messages sent to you (and stored temporarily on the mail provider's network) are copied to your computer. You can then open and read your messages. |
TIPConnecting Manually If you have set up Outlook for manual connection, click the Send/Receive button, log on, and download your e-mail messages. Part 4, "Using Advanced Mail Features," covers how to specify when messages are sent. |
If the Preview pane is displayed, you see a preview of the selected message. |
To open a message, double-click it in the Inbox list. |
The message is displayed in its own window. |
When you are finished reading the message, click its Close (x) button to close the window. |
HINTDisplaying the Preview Pane If the Preview pane is not displayed in your Outlook window, turn it on by opening the View menu and choosing Preview Pane. Then, specify where it should be placed by selecting Right or Bottom from the submenu. (Click Off to turn off this pane.) |
CAUTIONIgnoring Unsolicited Mail You'll receive a lot of unsolicited mail. As a rule, do not open a message if you do not recognize the sender because it may contain a virus. |
