Summary

In this chapter we discussed tunneling and labeling technologies. We not only explored how these could be secured via IPSec but also how security can be enforced at the application level via TLS. We illustrated the provision of QoS in IP networks and how this applies to IP tunnels and VPNs, as well as the use of AAA to enforce network access control and to offer commercial and predictable service. We concluded by addressing aspects such as address management, name resolution, and Network Address Translation (NAT), which are fundamental parts of the operation of enterprise and service provider networks, and when appropriate, we identified aspects especially relevant to wireless networks.
