Setting the New Document dialog box options

The purpose of the New Document dialog box is to create a new document.

This dialog box has two tabs, with options for new document types:

The General tab contains document types you can use to create a new blank page and predesigned pages that you can use as a basis for your own pages. (For information about setting options in the General tab, see Setting options in the General tab of the New Document dialog box.) You can select a document type from the following categories:

  • The Basic Page, Dynamic Page, Frameset, and Template categories enable you to create a new blank document or template.
  • The Other category enables you to create a blank page based on a special file type such as CSS, JavaScript, VBScript or Text files.
  • The CSS Style Sheets, Pages Designs, Pages Designs (CSS), and Pages Designs (Accessible) categories provide you with prebuilt design files you can use to create your own pages.

In the case of CSS style sheets, you can copy a predesigned styles sheet and apply it to your document.

The Templates tab contains a list of your defined Dreamweaver sites. You can select a template from any of the listed sites to create a new document based on that template. For information about setting options in the Templates tab, see Setting options in the Templates tab of the New Document dialog box.
